  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the geographic midpoint of the Acre-Amazonas border along the stretch of Rio Iaco, taking into account the added uncertainty of the word "próximo" (near) in the locality description. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the Acre-Amazonas border near Rio Iaco, a tributary of Rio Purus. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line between the segment of Rio Iaco that runs along the Acre-Amazonas border and halved this distance to approximate the location of the geographic midpoint of the border along the stretch of Rio Iaco. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of this location. Because the center of the nearest named place within Mun. Boca do Acre, the mouth of Rio Iaco, is farther than the linear extent of the named place itself (the distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the stretch of the Acre-Amazonas border along Rio Iaco), followed Case A of Named Place: Near a Named Place of the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide. Used the Distance Measurement Tool again to measure from the selected coordinates to the geographic center of the nearest named place, the mouth of Rio Iaco, then halved this distance to use as the approximate linear extent. Input coordinates, linear extent (3023.13 m), and measurement error (.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Near a Named Place).
