Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the Estaçao Experimental (research station) Gregório Bondar , near the named place Barrolândia, in Mun. Belmonte, Bahia. Using Google Maps - Text Search and Satellite View, located the place called Barrolândia (-16.101919, -39.273703), and using locality string information from another databased site record pertaining to specimens collected at the Estaçao Experimental Gregório Bonda (NY Site IRN: 19398), determined the station to be located approximately 7 km east of Barrolândia (confirmed this information through personal communication with a collector familiar with this area of eastern Brazil, Dr. W.Wayt.Thomas). Using Google Maps - Street View, found the exact location of the entrance to the station (-16.085467, -39.217360). Using Google Maps - Satellite View & What's Here tool, found coordinates (final) for the approximate geographic center of the Gregório Bondar field station and surrounding forested areas. Using Google Maps - Measure Distance tool, determined linear extent by measuring from the selected final coordinates to the furthest extent of the field station/forest (-16.105679, -39.221343). Input linear extent (1930.5 m), coordinate precision (0.00001 degrees), datum (WGS84), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Defined area).
