Á tree 25 an. dbh and 20 m. tall with alternate elliptic leaves with flowers w/ 6K,
6C(pinkX °°A (arranged together at the base and leaning toward one side covering die
stigmas) and <*> styles, in racemes. Fruit has yellowish latex with 2 seed. The bark is
vary bitter reddish hard. Wood is yellowish to white.
It: is found abundantly (21 out of 2573 trees in two plots out of 28 30x50 m. plots)
mostly on die forest at the Abusanqui Sierra east of Saimadodyi. The soil is normally
sand|y dark brown, quite humid and rich in humus. Tropical environment with an annual
average of 27°C temp, at 150 m. elev. and 3500 mm. of rain with high humidity and a
dry season from December 15 till March 15 (with rain at least once a week).
Used: wood is soft and rots fast but it can be used as firewood. It is a game animal
food tree for paca, agouti, parrot (Amazon sp.), macaw, deer, peccary among others (not
toucan).
