PLANTAS DE VENEZUELA
GESNERIAC.
Woody stem climbing to 3 m against tree trunk. Nodes with 2 red
glandular dots on each side of leaf base. Blade firm, slightly
succulent, adax. glossy. Sepals 4 x 2.5 cm, centrally & esp. at
base concave (margins curved outward) and sometimes overlapping
adjacent ones, in upper 3 mm red-purple with color extending to
8 mm down rib, apex glandular. Corola white outside 4 in, 5 cm
long x 1.6 cm (side view), x 2 cm (front view); basal part ca.
1 cm long and wide, hard, thick, glossy, creamy, constricted
above; upward inflated and gibbous on upper side, mouth slight-
ly constricted; upper (short) lobes recurved and with wide zone
of pale purple dots esp. on central nerve and extending 5-7 mm,
inside of upper two lobes with yellow hairs; lateral lobes with
just a central line of purplish dots; filaments white, anthers
yellowish; style pink, stigma creamy; (half-)disk crescent-
shaped, 6 x 2 mm. Near meadow along river, along access road
on finca of one Sr. Durin.
Edo. TACHIRA: carretera San Cristóbal-Barinas (vía
los Llanos), entre el río Piscuri y Caño Seco, aprox.
67 km al este de San Cristóbal; zona de bosque hú-
medo llanero. Altura ca. 100 metros.
