BROMELIACEAE
Epiphytic herbs hanging from a single moderate-aged Ilex
opaca, along the S. side of the tree, locally common but
otherwise rare. Also seen a few hundred feet to the W. & just
N. of this road in a forest. Many plants of this species are
dying here. This is the northern-most naturally
occurring population of this genus & species! Along
the N. edge of a mature forest, along a roadside, on seasonally
damp (probably), gray-loam soil (Dragston fine sandy loam,
0-2% slopes; coarse-loamy, mixed, semiactive, thermic Aerie
Endoaquults). This is an extremely dry year here and several
large trees are dying at this site. Growing with Acer rubrum,
Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Andropogon virginicus, Aralia
spinosa, Aronia arbutifolia, Carpinus caroliniana, Cary a
glabra, Chamaecrista fasciculata, Chasmanthium laxum,
Clethra alnifolia, Erechites hieraciifolia, Euonymus
americanus, Eupatorium pilosum, E. rotundifolium, Fagus
grandifolia, Hieracium sp., Ilex opaca, Juncus effusus (?),
Leucobryum sp., Leucothoe racemosa (= Eubotrys racemosa),
Liquidambar styraciflua, Magnonlia virginiana, Mitchella
repens, Nyssa sylvatica, Panicum rigidulum var. pubescens,
Pinus taeda, Prunus serótina, Quercus alba, Q. nigra, Q.
pagoda, Q. rubra, Rhexia virginica, Saccharum coarctatum,
Scutellaria integrifolia, Smilax rotundifolia, Solidago rugosa,
Tridens flavus, Vaccinium corymbosum & Viola primulifolia
(?). Along the S. side of Rt. 634 (Savage Neck Drive), about
0.55mi W. of the intersection with Rt. 13 Business. Eastville,
Northampton Co. Elev. about 18ft. 37° 20' 47.7"N, 75° 57'
