United States of America. New York. Westchester Wilderness Walk/Zofnass Family Preserve, Town of Pound Ridge. In the vicinity of the second bridge on the Joshua Hobby Lane. Just north of junction with the Upper Shad Road.

Along edge of road in late secondary deciduous forest. Not on WLT's property.

Description
Tree, 30 m x 35 cm. Bark gray, vertically fissured, the ridges flattened further up the trunk. Buds not angular, the scales pubescent only on margins. Petioles pulvinate (thicker than in Q. velutina); blades dark green, pale green abaxially, with stellate trichomes in axils of secondary veins with midrib. Acorn cups short, distinctly differentiated between cup and fruit (i.e., the cup does not taper onto fruit), the cup looks like a French beret. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
