Flora of the Paumonek Wetland, Long Island Rubus phoenicolasius Maxim. NEW YORK, SUFFOLK CO.: Huntington Station, in the Paumonek Wetland, west of Walt Whitman High School, on the south side of Jericho Turnpike, about 1.5 m south of the road. Growing in a ditch or vernal rain water stream. Long arching canes crimson to reddish-brown in color, extremely bristly. Fruit red/pink. At the. edge of an Oak- Hickory Mesic Woodland with Impatiens capensis, Rosa multiflora, Cichorium intybus, Alliaria petiolata, Aralia elata, Prunus, and Artemisia vulgaris. Matthew C.
