Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Because the locality description gives no indication of distance or direction from Japu, and many roads lead to this settlement, this instance was treated as a named place: unbounded area. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the small settlement of "Japu", Mun. Ilhéus, Bahia. Using the Google Maps - Search Engine found the general location of "Japu", then using Google Maps - Satellite View found the nearby settlement referenced as "Japu" in Wikimapia. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of this small settlement. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to approximate the linear extent by measuring from these coordinates to the approximate geographic center of the nearest named place, Santo Antonio (-14.8841978 -39.081333), then halving this extent. Input coordinates, linear extent (4995.86 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Undefined Area).
