  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Únable to find the precise location of "Forte Veneza;" georeferenced to the geographic midpoint of Rio Javari (synonymous with Rio Yavari) in Amazonas, Brazil. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the Rio Javari, a tributary of Rio Solimões. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line starting at the mouth of the river (confluence of Rio Javari and Rio Solimões) to the source of the river (at confluence of Rio Jaquirana and Rio Batã), then halved this distance to approximate the midpoint of the Rio Javari. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the midpoint of the river, on the adjacent shore. Input coordinates, linear extent (218237 m.), and measurement error (1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius. Rio Javari runs along the Brazilian-Peruvian boundary; the coordinates are located within Brazil.
