  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of Cachoeira Alta; georeferenced to the geographic center of Rio Tarumã-açu (synonymous with Rio Tarumã) in accordance with other locality descriptions. Using Google Maps, located Rio Tarumã-açu in Manaus, Amazonas. Used measurement tool to measure a straight line starting at the beginning of Rio Tarumã-açu (where it branches off of Rio Negro) to the end of this river (using visual evidence), then halved this extent to approximate the midpoint of Rio Tarumã-açu. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the midpoint, on adjacent land to the east of the river. Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the river - 19443.9 m.), and measurement error (.1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
