Georgia, Stephens County: Along both sides of Panther Creek, NW of
Yonah Dam. 34o40'18"N, 83°21'31"W; 215-250 m. Alluvial woods along
river and mixed hardwood forest on slopes on W side of river; main trees
Liriodendron, Aesculus octandra, Fagus grandifolia, Acer saccharum,
Liquidambar styraciflua (near river), with dense understory of Kalmia
latifolia and Rhododendron. Dry slopes at edges of and inside forests.
Shrubs 2-3 m tall; inflorescence branches and pedicels viscid; calyx green;
corolla pink, upper lobe and adjacent portion of two lateral lobes with
yellow spots from base to upper 3/4 of dorsal lobe and to upper 1/2 of
lateral lobes. DNA material available.
