Description
Pileus 3.5-8 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, deep red (10D8), dry, velutinous, not bruising, even to occasioanlly irregularly and shallowly pitted with age. Flesh pale yellow, unchanging to slowly and erraticaly blue, up to 14 mm thick, with mild odor and taste. Tubes shallow, adnate, bright lemon yellow when young, a duller yellow with age, unchanging when exposed; pores boletinoid, up to 2 mm broad, bruising reddish. Stipe 3-8 cm long, 10-15 mm broad, dry, lemon yellow at apex, becoming ered and heavily pruinose toward base, not bruising, yellow at base. Cfr 8749 (same site),.
