Description
Pileus 3.5-7 cm broad, dry, convex to plane, subvelutinous to matted subtomentose, areolate cracked at margin with age, deep purple brown (11F3), fading to 8F4 on disc and 7E5 toward the margin. Flesh white, unchanging, greenish around larval tunnels, up to 15 mm thick, with mild odor and taste. Tubes adnate to deeply depressed with age, whitish when young, soon pinkish flesh color, staining 7E5 with exposure, up to 15 mm long; pores concolorous, staining likewise, up to 1 mm broad. Stipe 3-6 cm longa, 7-10 mm broad, equal, subclavate-contorted to curved and subclavate, often pinched at the base, dry, glabrous, not reticulate, pale pinkish brown above, darker pinkish brown below, occasionally streaked and with with some hints of lilac at the base, with interior white, unchanging.
