Vaccinium oxycoccos L.
ERICACEAE
Creeping plants, locally common, flowers pink, mostly not
flowering. Growing in a small Sphagnum bog about 300-
400ft in diameter, in peat underlain by clayey soil (Nemah
silty clay loam; fine, isotic, acid, isomesic Vertic
Endoaquepts), possibly derived from an old, burned bog
forest (burned tree trunks present). Bog is slightly drier and
more hummocky in the southern 2/3 & wetter & flatter in the
northern 1/3. Growing with Agrostis aequivalvis, Anemone
oregana var.felix, Blechnum spicant, Boykinia intermedia,
Caltha leptosepala, Camassia quamash subsp. azurea, Carex
echinata subsp. phyllomanica, C. livida, C. vesicaria, Cornus
canadensis, Drosera rotundifolia, Erigeron peregrinus,
Gaultheria shallon, Hypericum anagalloides, Juncus
ensifolius, Kalmia microphylla subsp. occidentalis, Ledum
groenlandicum, Lilium columbianum, Linnaea borealis
subsp. longiflora, Lycopodium clavatum, Lysichiton
americanum, Maianthemum dilatatum, Menziesia ferruginea,
Picea sitchensis (rare), Pinus contorta (rare), P. monticola
(rare), Pleurozium schreiben, Pseudotsuga menziesii (rare),
Pteridium aquilinum, Rhynchospora alba, Sanguisorba
officinalis, Senecio triangularis subsp. angustifolius,
Sphagnum mendocinum, S. pacificum, S. palustre, S.
rubellum, Spiraea douglasii var. menziesii, Thuja plicata,
Trientalis borealis, Tsuga heterophylla & Vaccinium
ovalifolium. Surrounded by a young, dense forest of Abies
amabilis, Gaultheria shallon, Menziesia ferruginea,
Polystichum munitum, Pseudotsuga menziesii, Taxus
brevifolia, Thuja plicata & Tsuga heterophylla. To the W.
side of Rt. 101, about 5.8mi N. of the bridge over the
Humptulips River. Grays Harbor Co. Elev. about 400ft. 47°
17' 58.2”N, 123° 54' 33.4”W. UTM 10 431259E, 5238843N
