Harvard University, Gray Herbarium (GH) PLANTS OF ALABAMA Vaccinium arboreum Marsh. ERICACEAE Shrubby tree 20ft tall, trunk diameter 5in, rare, flowers fragrant & in great abundance, bark in long, shaggy strips to lin wide, reminiscent of a miniature Carya ovata. Growing at the edge of a forest in sandy loam (Bowie, Lakeland, and Cuthbert soils, 12-25% slopes: fine-loamy, siliceous, semiactive, thermic Plinthic Paleudults; thermic, coated Typic Quartzipsamments; fine, mixed, semiactive, thermic Typic Hapludults). Growing with Acer rubrum, Chamaecyparis thyoides, Cyrilla racemiflora, Ilex cassine or /. coriacea, /. glabra, I. vomitoria, Lonicera japónica, Lygodium japonicum, Magnolia grandiflora, M. virginiana, Myrica cerífera, Pinus elliottii, P. palustris, Pteridium aquilinum, Quercus nigra, Rubus argutus, Serenoa repens, Toxicodendron radicans, T. vemix, Vaccinium corymbosum, V. elliottii & Vitis rotundifolia. At the SW comer of the intersection of O’Sullivan Lane & Rt. 90 at the entrance of a residential subdivision called Donovan Landing & around 0,1 mi SW of the Styx River. Seminole, Baldwin Co.
