Growing in a forest in mostly shade, in seasonally flooded, sandy/organic soil (except this year, which is very dry; Mullica-Berryland complex, 0-2% slopes; coarse-loamy, siliceous, semiactive, acid, mesic Typic Humaquepts to sandy, siliceous, mesic Typic Alaquods). Growing with Acer rubrum, Campsis radicans, Chasmanthium laxum, Clethra alnifolia, Decodon verticillatus, Liquidambar styraciflua, Magnolia virginiana, Myrica cerifera, Pinus taeda, Quercus nigra, Q. phellos (rare), Rhododendron viscosum, Smilax rotundifolia, Toxicodendron radicans, Vaccinium corymbosum & Woodwardia virginica. In the “Cypress Swamp”, at the NE side of a small, square borrow-pit-pond, about 100ft S. of Rt. 54 (Cypress Road), about 2.0mi W. of the intersection with Parker Road. Sussex Co.
