rocky slopes. ericaceous scrub, Maleania, Puya, and Pictairnia. Common on slopes.

Description
Shrub, 2 m, bulky lignotuber, contorted stems, some branches pendelous; leaves coriaceous, dark green above, whitish green below, young leaves dark red; calyces red, corollas fleshy, red lobes green; fruits globose-ellipsoid, pale green, style pink-red, anthers yellow; some corollas with hole in tube made by nectar robber. Very ornamental.
