Arctostaphylos rubra (Redd. & Wilson) Fern.
ERICACEAE
Rhizomatous sub-shrub, locally common, fruit becoming red,
plants in moss. Growing in a semi-forested peat bog over
permafrost on an E-facing slope, with Arctagrostis latifolia
subsp. arundinacea, Betula nana, Cladonia mitis, Empetrum
nigrum, Epilobium angustifolium, Equisetum scirpoides,
Equisetum sylvaticum, Eriophorum scheuchzeri (?), Hypnum
or Pleurozium sp., Ledum groenlandicum, Peltigera
leucophlebia, Picea mariana, Pyrola grandiflora, Pyrola
minor, Rosa acicularis, Rubus chamaemorus, Rumex
acetosa, Salix planifolia subsp. pulchra (?), Saussurea
angustifolia var. angustifolia, Sphagnum spp., Stellaria sp.,
Vaccinium uliginosum & Vaccinium vitis-idaea. Along the
E. side of Rt. 2 (Elliott Highway), just N. of the milepost 54
sign, a few hundred feet W. of Bridge Creek & around
22.45mi N. of the Fairbanks North Star Borough line.
