Vegetation: bosque humedo remnants and secondary scrub.
Shrub, 2 - 2.5 m; leaves coriaceous, dark green glossy above, much paler
below, young flush foliage purplish pink; calyces dark red, corollas
fleshy, scarlet with greenish lobes and apex of tube; fruits hard, green
maturing to purplish black.
