Canada with predominance of melastome trees ca 10 m
tall. Elev. 2500 m.
Terrestrial or epiphytic shrub 1-3 m tall rooted in
thick moss & humus soils; floral bracts red; pedicels
& calyx pink to red; corolla red lower half, white
upper half or sometimes tinged with pink. Common.
