Costa Rica. Along Inter-American Hwy., bordering the provinces of Cartago and San José. 1-4 km south of El Empalme.

Habitat
Steep roadside bands and Quercus pastures. Common, although few flowering.

Description
Epiphytic and terrestrial shrubs 1.5-3 m tall. Stem bases 1-3 inches in diameter. Branches green. Rachis dark pink to green. Bracts dark pink or pink only in middle with white at base and apex (age factor? both on same plant). Immature fruits green.
