  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the city of Coari in Mun. Coari, Amazonas; taking into account the added uncertainty of the word "vicinity" in the locality description. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the city of Coari. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the city. Because there is no way to distinguish if the few nearest named places are neighborhoods of the city of Coari or separate cities, measured to the farther of the nearest named places, Mamiá. Because the center of the nearest named place, Mamiá, is father from the center of the center of the named place than the linear extent of the named place itself, followed Case A of Near a Named Place from the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected cordites to the nearest named place, Mamiá, then halved this distance. Input coordinates, linear extent (15472.65 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Near a Named Place).
