    Montane cloud forest. Quercus seemanii, Q. copeyensis. Gregarious. On soil.

  • Description

    Pileus 3.5-7 cm broad, dry, tomentose to matted tomentose, black at first, soon mustard brown (5E6-5) to a light olive brown (4D4); margin incurved, sterile. Odor mild; taste bitter. Flesh vivid yellow (2A8), changing to orange brown in places when exposed, with time becoming dark olivaceous in the stipe. Tubes adnate, <1 cm long, vivid yellow (2A8), changing to orange brown when bruised; pores likewise, <1 mm broad. Stipe 5.5-9 cm long, 2-3.5 cm broad, ±equal to tapering below, often somewhat radicating, dry, alveolate-reticulate, concolorous with lamellae in the upper 1-2 cm, then grading to olivaceous to black below, vivid yellow at base and staining orange brown there. Handling by the base of the stipe stains fingers a dirty yellow. Phenology of specimen: Basidiomata.
