  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to EFMM Estrada de Ferro Madeira-Mamoré website for a map of the Madeira-Mamoré Railway route (http://vfco.brazilia.jor.br/ferrovias/mapas/1965-Estrada-de-Ferro-Madeira-Mamore.shtml, accessed 8/4/2014). This railway is no longer in use. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the Abunã station along the Madeira-Mamoré railway in Rondônia, Brazil. Using the reference material, Google Earth, and Google Maps - Satellite View, located approximate location of the antiquated railway station. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the Abunã station. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the approximate location of the nearest named station, Penha Colorada, then halving this distance. Input coordinates, linear extent (5270.3 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
