  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to 80 km. along Rio Branco-Xapuri road in Acre, Brazil. The major road which serves to connect the cities is BR-317, but this road does not connect with the geographic center of city of Rio Branco. Located the most direct path between the two cities, starting at the beginning of road AC-040 (nearby the geographic center of Rio Branco), which connects with road BR-317, then meets road AC-403 which runs through the geographic center of Xapuri. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the start of road AC-040 in Rio Branco. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure along road AC-040 toward Xapuri to where it intersects with BR-317, which is at approximately 27.2281 km. Continued along BR-317 to total approximately 80 km. (80.00002 km.) from Rio Branco toward Xapuri. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) again to find linear extent of Rio Branco by measuring from the approximate geographic center of the city to the farthest extent that may be considered Rio Branco. Input coordinates, linear extent (183098.0 m.), measurement error (1 m.), and distance precision (100 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
