Description
Pileus: 50-54 mm, convex becoming nearly plane, densely matted subtomentose; very pale brown (5B3-6B3) with slight violaceous tint in places, and with dark brown fibrils / fibrillose scales. Margin decurved becoming uplifted; darkening in age. Context white, unchanging, spongy. Odor pungent, slightly floral. Taste extremely bitter.Stipe: 30-39 x 8-10 mm, central to slightly eccentric, equal, solid, not terete, having one or more furrows; minutely pubescent, white at apex, then violet (9E3)over rest of upper 1/3 to 1/2, and dark violet (9F4) over lower 1/2 to 2/3. Context white. Basal mycelium white. Hymenophore: Poroid, adnate; pores 2-3 per mm, round, light pink in maturity, staining pale brown. Hymenophore peels fairly easily from pileus, but not easily separable from itself, having a somewhat moist, sticky, subglutinous texture so that pulling the hymenophore apart produces glutinous strands that stretch when pulled.Macrochemical Reaction: NH4OH pale yellow on pileus and stipe; context negative.
