Physalis crassifolia Benth.
Riverside County, foothills of the Chuckwalla Mountains, open desert ca. 2 km south of Desert Center; 33°41’35”N, 115°24’ 14”W, ca. 325 m. Uncommon mounded perennial with much herbaceous growth from a small woody caudex, ca. 0.5 m tall and about as wide; petals pure yellow; fruiting calyx with 10 ribs. Rocky soil in desertscrub dominated by Ambrosia, Ditaxis, Euphorbia, Larrea, Opuntia, and Olneya.
