Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Difficult to distinguish the exact locations of each mine site; instead, georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the Morro do Felipe mining region. Referred to Figure 1- Localização da área estudada of "Cobertura Bauxítica e Origem do Caulim do Morro do Felipe, Baixo Rio Jari, Estado do Amapá," (1999) by Basile Kotschoubey, et. al for location information of Morro do Felipe (http://sbgeo.org.br/pub_sbg/rbg/vol29_down/2903/2903331.pdf, p. 332, accessed: 8/28/2014). Using the reference material and Google Maps - Earth View, located the mining region of Morro do Felipe along Rio Jarí in Vitória do Jari, Amapá. Used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the mining area. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the linear extent of the mining area by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the mining area (using visual evidence to approximate this). Input coordinates, linear extent (9810.0 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Defined Area).
