  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic midpoint of Rio Negro between the cities of Santa Isabel do Rio Negro (formerly named Tapuruquara) and Barcelos in Amazonas, Brazil. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the cities of Santa Isabel do Rio Negro and Barcelos, along Rio Negro. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line between the approximate geographic center of the shore of the city of Santa Isabel do Rio Negro and the geographic center of the shore of the city of Barcelos, then halved this distance to approximate the location of the midpoint of Rio Negro between the two sites. Measured to approximately this halved distance from one extreme of this segment toward the center; used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates along the river, on the adjacent shore (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Input coordinates, linear extent (120448.0 m), and measurement error (.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
