  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to geographic center of the segment of the Vaupés River (synonymous with Rio Uaupés) between the shore of Ipanoré (synonymous with Panuré) and the confluence of Rio Negro and the Vaupés River (mouth of the Vaupés). Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the Vaupés River in São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Amazonas. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line between the confluence of Rio Negro and the Vaupés River and where the Vaupés River meets the shore of Ipanoré; halved this distance to approximate the location of the midpoint of the river. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the midpoint. Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the segment, 66048.2 m.), and measurement error (.1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
