United States of America. New York. Nassau Co. Stillwell Woods County Park, Woodbury, just north of the Long Island Railroad tracks. Long Island.

Habitat
In a flat area south of steep slope, with exposed sand and 'tree islands.' In very sandy, gravelly soil with a thick oak-leaf litter layer interspersed with bare areas thickly covered in mosses; directly next to open sand (with deep hoof-prints). Growing with Quercus stellata, and Quercus velutina. Frequent in the area.

Description
Low, creeping/suckering shrub, stems reddish-brown. Heavily in flower, heavily visited by flying insects. New growth tinged red. Patch approx. 1.5 x 2.4 m, very dense. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
