  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of "Cachoeira de São Pedro;" instead georeferenced to the geographic center of Rio Cachorro, a tributary of Rio Trombetas, in Pará, Brazil. Referred to map "Mapa das bacias do Trombetas e do Mapuera, no noroeste do Pará" provided by article "Notas sobre o antigo povoamento indígena do alto Trombetas e Mapuera" by Antonio Porro for location information of Rio Cachorro (Porro, Antonio. "Notes on the ancient indian settlements of the upper Trombetas and Mapuera rivers, Pará, Brazil." Bol. Mus. Para. Emilio Goeldi Cienc. Hum., Dec. 2008, vol.3, no.3, p.387-397. ISSN 1981-8122 accessed 31 October 2013). Using the reference map and Google Maps - Satellite View, located Rio Cachorro. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line beginning at the mouth of the river (at the confluence of Rio Cachorro and Rio Trombetas) to the approximate source of the river (approximated through the dense forests); halved this distance to approximate the location of the geographic center of Rio Cachorro. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the midpoint, on the adjacent shore. Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the river, 93708.1 m.) and measurement error (.1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
