  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Prior to the 1990s, the city of Breu Branco was situated approximately 35 - 40 km. south of the city of Tucuruí. The construction of the Tucuruí Dam, which spans across Rio Tocantins in Tucuruí, Pará, caused the area south of the Dam to become flooded. The city of Breu Branco became submerged underwater and was relocated east of the Tucuruí Dam (La Rovere, E.L. and Mendes, F.E. 2000. TucuruÌ Hydropower Complex, Brazil, A WCD case study prepared as an input to the World Commission on Dams, Cape Town, www.dams.org. Accessed: 14 November 2013). Site is not georeferencable; the location of this site is dependent on the date of collection.
