Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to Geonames.org for location information for the city of Aramanaí (http://www.geonames.org/maps/google_-2.712_-55.html, accessed: 12/12/2014). Unable to find the precise location of Igarapé de Água Clara; instead, georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the city of Aramanaí, in Mun. Belterra, Pará; taking into account the added uncertainty of the word "próximo" (near) in the locality description. Used the reference map and Google Maps - Earth View to locate the city of Aramanaí, along the coast of Rio Tapajós. Used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the city. Because the center of the nearest named place, Santa Maria, is farther from the center of the Aramanaí then the linear extent of Aramanaí itself, followed Case A of the "Near A Named Place" method of the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to Santa Maria, then halving this distance. Input coordinates, linear extent (4395.0 m), and measurement error (2.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Near a Named Place).
