  • Georeferencing Method

    Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to 16 km (average of 14 and 18 km) along the road linking the towns of Nilo Peçanha and Cairú (BA 884) measured from Nilo Peçanha towards Cairú, in Mun. Cairú, Bahia. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located Nilo Peçanha, Cairú and BA 884. Beginning at the point along BA 884 closest to the approximate geographic center of Nilo Peçanha (-13.6099102 -39.1032171), used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure approximately 16 km (16.0001 km) along BA 884 towards the town of Cairú. Using Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs, found coordinates for the offset. Using Distance Measurement Tool again found the linear extent of the starting location of the offset, the town of Nilo Peçanha, by measuring from the selected starting coordinates along BA 884 to the farthest extent of the town (-13.6002957 -39.1119289). Input coordinates, linear extent (1.43189 km), distance precision (1 km), and measurement error (0.0005 km) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Offset: offset along a path). Note: an additional 2000 m was added to the uncertainty output from the MaNIS calculator to account for the 2 km difference between the distance ranges provided on the label and the average distance used for measuring the offset.
