  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of "Enseada de Alter do Chão" since there are many coves/inlets within Alter do Chão; instead georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the city of Alter do Chão along Rio Tapajós. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the city of Alter do Chão in Pará, Brazil, which sits along Rio Tapajós. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the approximate geographic center of the city. Because the city does not have defined spatial boundaries, used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure from the selected coordinates to the geographic center of the nearest named place, the city of Santarém; halved this distance to approximate the linear extent of Alter do Chão. Input coordinates, linear extent (13667.9 m.), and measurement error (.1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
