Municipio Ilheus: Inema, Fazenda Santa Rita on slopes of
Morro Correa. Elev. U50m. Abundant bamboo at this elevation
and higher in red clay soil (bamboos not occurring below
this elevation in the black, sandy soils), the culms solid,
running along the ground and criss-crossing the forest floor,
rooting at the nodes, and sending branches climbing into the
trees to 15m. Culm leaves: sheath long, scabrous, extending
beyond the following node, persistent and eventually rotting;
blade long, narrow, scabrous, abscissing. New branches
emerge below the nodal ridge, pointing opposite from the
direction of growth of the culm. Common name: "cipo de lixo"
(rough vine).
