  • Description

    Branched tree, c. 20 m tall x 50 cm dbh. Inflorescences cauliflorous, to 1 m long. Outer petals yellow without, orange-red within; androceum white with pink filaments; calyx greenish. The flowers have a strong clove odor during the day; when cut oxidizes blue-green, but the ovules remain white. Fruits brown, c. 20 cm diam., the mature pulp is opaque purple-maroon, with a smell like Cyphomandra betacea (Tomatillo); seeds many, hairy outside, the embryo white. Germination in 15 days. Phenology of specimen: Flower and Fruit.
