Masa textills Hee.
Fruits dark green, angular, about
8 cm. long, with black flat scars 5 to 8
ram. wide at the tip.
Leaf from sucker, lower surface,
terminating in filiform tip 2 to 3 cm. long,
black line showing faintly.
Flower bud about 16 by 7 cm. with bracts
pale pink near the base, shading to deeper red
near the rounded tips.
Staminate flowers 5 cm. long.
From abaci, plants introduced in 1904
on Experiment Station Farm, Mayaguez, Porto

Plants with trunks 2 to 4 meters high,
and leaves 1.5 to 2 in. long, with charac-
teristic black line about 3 cm. from the
right margin as seen from below.
In moist, rich soil at the base of a
ravine in the valley of the Jagua, Experi-
ment Station Farm, l&yaguez, Porto Eico.
Introduced in 1904.
