Mixed forest on sandy loam, with Ocotea rcdieei
(Greenhearth Carapa guianensis ICrabwood], Eschweilera
sp. (Black kakarsllij, Eperua rubiglnosa IWatafa] and
Sclerolobium sp. IKaditiri],
Tree, 7-8 m hiQhr dbh ca. 10 cm. Bark with red, sticky
sap. pwood light brown, heart wood dark brown.
Cauliflorous; fruits borne at a height of 0.40-5 m.
Young branches« leaf rachis and veins yellow*brown
hairy. Older branches black*brown hairy. Persistent
calyx with 2*3 mm long black ants and 15 mm long red
ants. Fruits monoliferm, 7*30 cm long, with 1-4(*7)
seeds, splitting open longitudinally with spiralling
valves; wall fleshy, yellow at maturity. Seed yellow, 3
cm long, arillate; aril dark yellow, granular, juicy,
sweet-scented, tasting $weet*aromatic.
