Habitat
The island, formerly covered by forests, nowadays shows mainly low secondary vegetation ("capoeira") and shrubby open places. The "Babassu-palm" (Orbignya martiana) is a prominent element, especially in secondary growth. Along water course Euterpe oleracea ("Assai-palm") and Mauritia flexuosa ("Buriti-palm") are common.
