Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to "Autobiobibliografia Manoel Rodrigues Ferreira" (2005) for information about the Brasilia-Acre highway, BR-29 (historical name). BR-29 has become divided up into different named highways across its span. The stretch of this highway between Rio Branco, Acre and Vilhena, Rondônia is now named BR-364 (http://www.ebooksbrasil.org/eLibris/biomanoel.html, accessed 8/7/2014). Georeferenced to 66 km west of Vilhena along BR-364 (toward Rio Branco, Acre) in Rondônia, Brazil. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the city of Vilhena, Rondônia along BR-364. Beginning at the intersection of BR-364 and BR-174 (at the approximate geographic center of the city of Vilhena), used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure approximately 66 km (66.00 km) toward Rio Branco. Used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the offset along the road. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent of the starting location, the city of Vilhena, by measuring from the approximate geographic center of the city to the farthest extent of the city. Input coordinates, linear extent (7.83 km), measurement error (.005 km), and distance precision (1 km) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
