    In Laurencia paniculata cover in hb. Ag[ardh]. are several Adriatic specimens which the elder Ag. had apparently referred to his Chondria obtusa var. paniculata. No. 36711 "Trieste in hb. C. Ag." is probably as reliable as any, though smaller and less conspicuously paniculate than some of the others. A Martinique plant is the only American specimen that finds itself in this species cover in hb. Ag., though numerous others from Florida, especially such as an close to L. papillosa including F. A. E., No. 63 (issued as L. papillosa Grev. var. subsecunda Kutz.) are in a cover marked "Laur. paniculata var.?". Photo of No. 36711. 64.4 m. 11:30 Nat. size. It is Howe's handwritten on the sheet: "Yamada (Univ. Calif. Publ. Bot. 16:192. pl. 3 [1931]) selects this No. 36711, photographed above, as the type and publishes a photograph of it. He puts it in his section Palisada, near L. papillosa". This is a B/W photo of the type, in herb. Agardh No. 36711.
