  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the road which connects Rio Juruena to the city of Aripuanã in Mato Grosso, Brazil. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the road which connects the river to the city, MT-208. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line between the location where the road meets Rio Juruena (at the region of Juruena) to the location where the road meets the approximate geographic center of the city of Aripuanã (end of road MT-208), then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along this segment of MT-208 nearest to the midpoint of the line; used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates along the road. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of this segment of road. Input coordinates, linear extent (80670.1 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
