Rio Piabanha appears only on a paper map of the area (referenced below), and even there its entire course is not well labeled especially in the area south of the town of Tres Braços, where several unlabeled rivers meander and intermingle. The second part of the description "Ilhas do rio" is not helpful for resolving this issue because the scale of all available online and paper maps are too poor to discern such features. Therefore, georeferenced to the point along the banks of the nearest visible stream or river to the point exactly 5 km directly south from the town of Tres Braços (alternative spelling = Tres Branços), in Mun. Cravolândia, Bahia. Using a paper map of the area (Superintendência do Desenvolvimento do Nordeste. "Jaguaquara" [Map]. Mapas da Região Nordeste do Brasil – 1:100,000. Convênio SUDENE – Governo do Estado da Bahia. SUDENE, Recife, PE, Brasil. 1977) located the town of Tres Branços. Using Google Maps - Terrain View, and referencing the topographic features shown on the paper map, re-identified the location of Tres Branços (found ca. 6.3 km ENE from the place where the name "Tres Branços" appears on Google maps. Using Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs found coordinates for the approximate geographic center of the town of Tres Branços (-13.5119542 -39.6979165). Using Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps), found the linear extent of the starting point of the offset, the town of Tres Branços, by measuring from the selected coordinates at the center of town to the farthest extent of the town (-13.5084386 -39.7025728). Input coordinates (-13.5119542 -39.6979165), direction (S), distance (5 km), distance precision (1 km), linear extent (0.635151 km), and measurement error (0.0005 km) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the preliminary coordinates and final uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Offset: Offset at a heading). Lastly, used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs again to find coordinates (final) for the closest point along any stream or river to the offset coordinates outputted by the MaNIS calculator (-13.5571479 -39.6979165).
