Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Difficult to locate the precise route of this river (Rio Urubu) nearby an offset of 115 km along Manaus - Caracaraí road due to dense forest cover in the area (although Rio Urubu intersects Manaus - Caracaraí road at approximately 98 km; at: -2.113327, -59.991395). Instead, georeferenced to an offset of 115 km along the road connecting Manaus and Caracaraí, BR-174. Used Google Maps – Earth View to locate BR-174 connecting the two cities. Beginning at the start of this road in the city of Manaus, used the Google Maps – Measure Distance Tool to measure approximately 115 km (115.0007 km) along the road toward the city of Caracaraí. Used the Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the offset along the road. Used the Google Maps – Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent of the starting location, determined to be the stretch of BR-174 within the administrative area of the city of Manaus, by measuring from the location where BR-174 comes nearest to the approximate geographic center of Manaus to the farthest extent of BR-174 within Manaus. Input coordinates, coordinate precision (.00001 degrees), coordinate source (locality description), datum (WGS84), linear extent (12.21 km), measurement error (.005 km), and distance precision (1 km) into the MaNIS Georeferncing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Offset: Offset along a path). Converted uncertainty radius from km to m.
