  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Interpreted this locality as along the road connecting the city of Eunápolis to the city of Porto Seguro, in Mun. Porto Seguro, Bahia. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the city of Eunápolis, the city of Porto Seguro, and the primary road which connects the two cities, BR-367. Beginning at the point along BR-367 closest to the approximate geographic midpoint of the city of Eunápolis (-16.3748888 -39.581278), used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line to the point along BR-367 closest to the approximate geographic center of the city of Porto Seguro, then halved that extent to find the approximate location of the geographic midpoint (-16.4091018 -39.3223402). Using Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs, found coordinates for the point along BR-367 closest to the geographic midpoint. Found the linear extent by measuring a straight line from the selected coordinates alongside the road to the farthest extent of either of the two cities, Eunápolis or Porto Seguro. Input coordinates, linear extent (29511.2 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: River, stream, road, path).
