    with Dicymbe altsonii [Clump wallaba] and Eperua falcata [Soft wallaba]. On transition from loam to white sand.

  • Description

    Tree, 34 m high, dbh 55 cm, unbuttressed. Bark longitudinally fissured, grey-brown, 1 cm thick. Sapwood light brown, with some black vertical streaks, heartwood dark red-brown. Leaves glabrous, primary vein prominent on both sides. Flowers (dark) pink, sweet-scented; sterile stamens with white tip; fertile stamens white in frontpart and yellow in backpart of flower. Fruit light brown, with dark brown rests of sepals, somewhat rough because of numerous lenticels. Fruit wall with red, sticky resin. Seeds (from closed fruit) orange-yellow, conspicuously veined longitudinally, 1 (or 2) per fruit. Funicle white, aril yellow-white, fleshy. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
