Habitat
On gentle eastern mountain slope along roadside, in full sun. Grassland, Berkheya, Ballota, Eragrostis, Hermannia and Themeda. Native and abundant. In well-drained soil of sandstone loam.

Description
Perennial geophytic dwarf shrub of 15 cm high with deep, strong root system, stems with prickles. Simple, hairy leaves alternate, glaucous, with prickles, leaf margins entire to dentate. Flowers in cymes, with mauve petals and yellow stamens. Fruit a berry. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
