Habitat
Wet montane forest at lower elevations walking up through palm brakes (Prestoea montana) and on up to elfin forest at top. Higher elevation cloud forest with Hillia parasitica, Oreopanax capitatus, Utricularia alpina, Ilex sideroxyloides, and Myrcia platyclada.

Description
Tree, to 10 m. Common tree, to 10 m. tall, in elfin forest. Flower buds reddish-pink to fuchsia; flowers with calyx maroon, petals crean-yellow tinged heavily with pink-salmon, giving the flower an orange appearance. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fertile.
